Archive for February, 2013

[From September] From this Fashion Week I had three or four designers that I have found really attractive and interesting but I will only write about Dolce & Gabbana in this post as they won for me the award of the most cheerfulness with their bright colour with a lot of red reminding us their campaigns full of life (that you can see on this post that a friend wrote). Among those colours we have loose tops & loose trousers, this is a aura of ease given by this new collection by Dolce & Gabbana for this new season S/S 2013.

[From February] As I wanted to publish this post a long time ago (before the FW) the AW13 was presented last weeks therefore I will merge them both into the same post. In this collection, and as I said in one of my post earlier (presenting the AW13 globally), is just the continuity of the SS13, we find the same quirky inspiration, to be honest at the first look I thought it was a reedition of a Tsar’s wardrobe. Precious stones, religious drawing, earrings, a colour pattern similar to some painting of the Russian tsarist history, to sum-up, I love it.

Cheers,

Thomas

Red Hot Sunglasses

After my long break I had to re-think in what way I wanted to continue my blog, what contents to share, what thoughts. So I decided to share more with you and also where I shop, where I look for new items so as I did on my French blog I am about to introduce you an e-shop. At this time of the year I am always looking for new sunglasses to get them around June when I get back to France, two years ago I went for the 649 (I thought it was the Steve McQueen one but apparently no) model by Persol and last year I went for some Gucci in tortoise (yes two pairs in tortoise, but I like it).  The e-shop is called Red Hot Sunglasses.
A lot of famous brand will be soon available on their website such as Moscot and Burberry. You will find again, Ray Ban, Prada, D&G, Chloé and Givenchy and something surprised me, they had the Alexander McQueen collection available! Of course there are more choices for women with Valentino, Vivienne Westwood and Tods. What I found interesting in this e-shop, was the arty side of the boutique, each brand has its own banner related to the collection, like for Alexander McQueen, pictures from the accessories campaign were used to made the header.

An outlet is available among their blog – If you want to know, I want this pairs – the square aviator by A.McQ in Red. My birthday is on the 24th of April just to let you know! ;)

Cheers,

Thomas

At this time, the ecological problem is hitting us, consuming in the fashion world is one of the best way to waste our resources through buying a new wardrobe each new season. We know that a lot of companies are now looking for some eco-friendly solutions to avoid the bad image of someone who does not care about our environment. I am not telling that is the only way of thinking of these companies but it takes a good percentage of it. So we have H&M, which decided to launch is own Recycle operation starting from February 2013.

“Our sustainability efforts are rooted in a dedication to social and environmental responsibility. We want to do good for the environment, which is why we are now offering our customers a convenient solution: to be able to leave their worn out or defective garments with H&M.” –  CEO Karl-Johan Persson

Therefore for each bag of old clothes (any brands) that you bring to a store you can claim a £5 voucher valid over 6 months (you have to spend at least £30 to redeem it).

The Conscious collection of HM is only made with environmentally sustainable materials (such as recycled polyester). According to H&M, as much as 95 percent of these clothes could be used again; re-worn, reused or recycled. That is a good way to recycle all the items from the last collections which are not trendy anymore.

“H&M said the scheme was part of its wider sustainability push, which aims to develop a “closed loop” for textile fibres that would drastically reduce the environmental impact of new garments.” – BusinessGreen

The only thing that we can say at the moment it is to wish them good luck with those directives, noble and trendy, a good way to ensure their future.
Cheers,

Thomas

It has been three months that I am at my new university now (oh dear I miss UKC!) but I really enjoy my course here. I met new peoples and visited new places (Winchester has plenty of little secrets), a school trip in Paris in April, my trip to China in March, starting to organise my semester abroad in Hong Kong at the polytechnic university (or Shanghaï). But before all of that I had to hand in two assignments, d one brief for a module and six moodboards for another one. My brief is about the brand SuitSupply and we had given 6 topics for our moodboards except for one where we were more “free” that’s why I wanted to put into this one most things that I like or which inspired me. That is why I created a new tumblr, called Voluntas Dei :

Therefore on this tumblr you will have a lot of pictures which inspire me that I used in my last mood-board.
We had a presentation of our second year students, it was a forecasting for the upcoming trends for the season AW14. We also attended to the fashion show of our fashion & textiles students and I found two young designers really up above the rest, I will try to upload you some pictures later I need to find where the administration uploaded them.
So for a fresh start in this new and exciting semester we have two assignments for our Fashion Promotion and Consuming Fashion modules due in March and May. In the first one I will have to setup a homepage for my own brand (fictive obviously) therefore I will share with you the result, but again, it just a small part and no-compulsory (I wished :( ). On the 12th we are going to Pure London and I am really excited about it because this event is one of the main events in the year around the world for buyers. I may post a report about my day there.

Cheers,

Thomas

So there we are, these new collections are for some of them a real surprise and continue on the path they took since the last catwalk (no surprise for McQueen which is for me the best designer of this season), I am also quite happy with Gucci and Louis Vuitton which played on some greats and originals pattern. I have selected 4 looks that I really like, in fact I wanted just 3 of them but I could not decide of which one I had to let down so I put them all. The red is back.

Alexander McQueen :
I have nothing to say about this collection, the whole creation took my breath away, all these patterns are so well-mastered that it is a perfect for me. The first look could remind me the AW12 by Primark but  at 200floors above. The look 1 & 2 are my favourite, maybe because I love that kind of combination  between colours, white/black and red/black.
Balenciaga :
I really enjoy this collection as it brings a casual fresh-air to this market – I would not wear the outfit like that but i would take a piece of each and wear them on their own.
Givenchy :
Even if I liked this collection, I am a bit disappointed by the fact that Tisci re-build this collection on the last one without many changes. So as I said most of these collections took the same way than the last season but at least some of them, even with the same breath they made it different and on this one I do not think that I look at a different collection.
Gucci :
This collection is awesome, I really encourage you to see the whole collection because I was really torn while I was selecting what look to put online. It is really classic, this is Gucci, but with an Italian touch, these looks 1 & 3 are really what I was waiting from them, this collection is more about Gucci than the last one for me.
Louis Vuitton :

After an impressive SS13 collection, this AW13 just finished the work for this year. Again we find some amazing patterns among this collection and some minimal pieces which balance the whole thing. My favourite looks are the first and the third one, I am really into pattern for this season I do not know why but at least I got some good looks to look at.
Lanvin :

I wanted to show you this Lanvin collection, a bit quirky for me and not really how I see the House, but still quite interesting with the fourth look and the second one, I do not really know how to explain my point of view on these looks but I like them.

During this week my selection for the menswear will be online soon, and more.

Cheers,

Thomas
